This City Dog Likes My New Country Dog Friend Dakota

This City Dog Likes My New Country Dog Friend Dakota

I was raised in NYC, with the sounds of sirens and the touch of concrete always around me.  I play in dog parks and am usually on a leash running around busy people on the street…

I usually smell clean and my fur is not too raggity, you never know you might meet on the streets….

But, when I was in Missouri I met a new friend Dakota. He’s older than me,  a bit smelly, hairy, nappy, but definitely a country dog. Dakota wonders from one house to another, exploring wherever he wants to go. He never looks back to where his mommy is or does he worry about who he’s gonna run into to…

mmmm. Squeeky Balls

mmmm. Squeeky Balls

Like other dogs out there, I LOVE those Air Kong ™ squeaky tennis balls. I won’t  play with any other  ball at the dog run or at home if it isn’t a Air Kong with a squeaker. But, my parents have gotten a little concerned ’cause when we take out our Air Kong at the dog park, some other dogs can get really aggressive and won’t give up my squeaky ball. All I wanna do is play with it guys!

I’m pretty laid back, and I won’t ever fight or even compete for my ball (i’m a lover not a fighter). I’ll just follow the dog around that takes my ball until he drops it…Sometimes other doggy parents blame my parents for bringing the balls to the park in the first place and say they are creating the problem…I really wonder though who is to blame? Is it my parents? Or is it the other dogs? Or me? Or no one?

My parents and I feel bad for stirring up drama in the dog park, but on the other hand shouldn’t we all be able to play nice together and share… I have no problem sharing with everyone and hope others can too one day.

Stone's Tasty Biscuits & Bath ID

Stone's Tasty Biscuits & Bath ID

Thanks to my dad’s “in” I was been spoiled with Biscuits & Bath daycare almost every week last summer from Tues-Friday. There are many rumors out there about Biscuits & Bath, but below is the straight deal from a dog who was there all summer, so all you dogs and their parents know what to expect.

In the beginning I spent most of my days at the Biscuits & Bath Riverside location at 68st and Riverside. This location is at Trump towers and had only 30 or so dogs and was never crowded or too loud.  Riverside had a great personalized environment and chill vibe I likes.  I got an hour park run everyday from one of new friends with the attention and caring  one would expect from such a high class place.  Management  made sure all my needs were met. I even got one of the best bath’s I ever had here one day. The grooming and bathing here is about as best as you can get in NYC… The ladies like it too…

Aren't I handsome?

Aren't I handsome?

Yet I was transferred to the Greenwich Village Biscuits & Bath location on 13st between 5th and 6th avenues some days. This place was different.  The 13st Biscuits & Bath location is more crowded, loud, and kind of disorganized compared to the Riverside location. Granted the more dogs at Biscuits & Bath, the more friends I can meet and hang with…

The manager at Greenwich Village Biscuits & Bath sometimes forget my daily walks.  Either way, Biscuits & Bath is a large, clean, fun place but if I had to choose one location to go to, I would suggest others ones than the 13st one.

Raising Donations for the North Shore Animal League!

My parents and I had a great time down in the West Village with our new friends at the North Shore Animal League earlier today!  I was invited by  John Bartlett, the famous designer to help out the  North Shore Animal League and some puppy cousins to find a home…

My parents and I  had so much fun meeting John and some of the young puppies.  The volunteers at the North Shore Animal League were so nice to everyone. I was to see that so many people gave puppies new homes…

We at Metro Paws donated some of our poop bags, giving anyone who adopted a dog or made a donation a package of bags.  We love being a good company to needy dogs. Contact the North Shore Animal League or Petfinder.com to adopt a needy dog, its really important.

I'm a dog I Bark

I'm a dog I Bark

Lately people have been asking me if I  Tweet, I gotta say I thank you for asking, but, I am a dog people, and I bark!

Its already hard enough being a dog that types on the computer, reads and responds to emails, now people want me to TWEET? I dunno people, its kind of undoglike to ask me to make a noise like a bird.

I actually like to eat birds… mmmmm But not pigeons, they are too dirty for me.

2010 Westminster Hound Winner

2010 Westminster Hound Winner

We here at metropaws.com are obviously dog lovers.  We are  in NYC and are  so excited  to have the Westminster Dog Show come to our town every year at Madison Square Garden… This year my parents went to a AKC benefit event & met some of the awesome people behind the scenes of the big show…

We must say that we were impressed with everyone’s passion about the health and showmanship of my doggy cousins across the country… Yet after talking to some of these people, my parents learned that these dog owners don’t  hang with people like us too often.  Most of the people who show their dogs at dog shows don’t live in big cities, they don’t live in  small apartments, and hell, they don’t go to dog parks like me and my parents.

Us urban dogs and our owners live different lives.  In a closed room with  people in tuxedos, my jean wearing parents stuck out like a sore thumb but they all got along very well with everyone and plan to help each other partner in the future. Keep your eyes peeled on metropaws.com for more on that…

My New Bed Modelled by a dog model...

My New Bed Modeled by another dog model...

Things have been a little busy lately. My parents are working hard to have our new site up, they are in meetings with web developers, dog owners, dog stores, and service providers, and of course Christmas trees and New Years have come and gone…

But the Christmas season brought with it great new presents, especially my new bed my parents bought from a small dog shop back in St Louis, Missouri.

You should all know off the bat that this bed rocks. Its big, fluffy, not smelly, and really is comfortable and soft for my big body. My parents learned a thing  or two about the store as well, first it was shipped with “Petedge.com” packing tape, it had no bubble wrap or plastic protection, and even had a Hersey kiss empty wrapper in the box…. I guess not all small businesses see branding and customer service like we at MetroPaws do. But, hey my parents and I will always support the small local pet shops, for we are a small start-up ourselves, but really empty Hersey kiss wrappers in with my new expensive bed?

Being a dog during the holidays is tough… The weather is cold, your parents seem extra busy, and there are a lot more people and trees on the streets, and yes there is less space on the curbs for pooping…

Many doggies like myself have little idea what the holidays actually are, but we do know that we like presents, and with so many options out there I wanted to share two great new gifts I got for Christmas.

These gifts are not only different but fun and functional.

I’m working hard to get my weight down, eating better, getting more exercise, taking vitamins, but I do come from big stock, my mom was 95lbs and my dad was 120lb. SO, there is little way I can get under 90lbs, let alone 30… so what’s with this 30lbs or less rule?

So...who's more important???

So...who's more important???

‘SIZE-ISM’ is what I call it!!! I am really sad and upset that this sort of thing is still going on in this country! It’s bad enough there is still sexism, racism, and all kinds of “ism’s” out there, but now Size-ism too??? Many stores don’t allow dogs, which is fine for me I guess as long as they keep it consistent…but those that allow dogs under 30lbs, WTF??? Sooooo not fair, because either you allow dogs or you don’t. PERIOD. It makes no sense to me, it’s SIZEIST…”size discrimination”.

Even some of the DOG non-profits such as Animal Haven have holiday fundraisers, but don’t take dogs larger than 25lbs…HUH? My mommy and daddy try to support all the events they can, but if they are Sizests, what else does that mean about what they think of larger dogs? What about pitbulls? Do they think their bad just because of their reputation?

It’s all very frustrating and confusing and I wish that someone out there would make some kind of law for once that APPLIES TO ALL DOGS EQUALLY, I mean REALLY! AND THAT DOESN’T GO FOR JUST DOG LAWS…that goes for all of the “ISM’S” that are still out there. This country is supposed to be based on equality! Get with the program already people! Grrrrrrrrrrr……
